This is a dedication to the smaller parcels of special fruit I get from devoted and significant growers, who have the passion and obsession I have for great Mudgee Shiraz. This is a Multi-Vineyard – Multi-Vintage composition Shiraz showing only carefully selected late-harvest Shiraz from 3 vineyards that allow healthy late ripening for full rich-ripe, decadent Shiraz expression from 3 great harvests blended together after careful ageing in older French and Hungarian oak hogsheads.
I salute the passion and work of Ian Macrae, Mick Burgoyne, Jo Holland and Tony Muller who have made this composed symphony of Mudgee Shiraz Expression (hot and colder, higher altitude and lower vineyards), where dry red wine meets a, raisined-late harvest almost ‘Amarone-esque’ style of expression.
Reminiscent aromatic notes of plum and port pudding, granddad’s pipe tobacco box and big black cherry pie waft through the nose with further subtle bass palate notes of Christmas spice, rum raisin chocolate, peppery meat and ripe blackberry cascade over the palate and leave the impression of a sweet but dry deep rich red with something special to satisfy all.
Then there you have it – BIG and RICH but smooth and creamy.
